If you're experiencing leg pain, but you'd like to start running, you should know that doing some other exercises and following a few treatment tips will help you to run without feeling as much discomfort in both or one of your legs. Today, we'd like to share some practical tips on how to start running when you have leg pain.

Do the Right Warm-ups

If your calves are weak, they may be your trouble spot and this weakness may be rectified with the right exercises. Strengthening your calves via exercise which is performed before running is therefore recommended. Exercises which do boost strength in the calves may alleviate pain and it may also assist you with reducing the risk of various running-related injuries, such as shin splints.

One exercise to try is the "farmer's walk". Perform it by grabbing a couple of dumbbells which have a heavy weight level. Then, rise up via the toes and walk ahead for one minute. Keep your posture straight while you do this exercise. This move will develop your calves and also boost your cardio fitness level. Try to do this exercise at least three times every day.

Another move to try is the "eccentric calf raise". Perform it by standing on a step. Your heels should hang over the back edge of the step. Next, grab a rail and then push yourself upwards. After you do this, drop the heels below where your feet are placed. Push upwards again and then repeat the move. Do a few sets of fifteen eccentric calf raises daily.

Other Treatment Tips for Leg Pain

You may also benefit from applying ice to your legs before a run. Ice is very numbing and it's also an easy and free way to take down inflammation. Some people prefer moist heat and this is certainly another treatment option. Try one of both before you run in order to feel better.

It's possible to relieve pain with mild, over-the-counter pain relievers, such as Advil and Tylenol.
